XBox 360 Resolution Upgrade. Why not Wii?

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

I recently speculated that Nintendo could add HD support to the Wii with a firmware update.  More evidence that this sort of thing is possible came in the form of a Microsoft announcement at TGS:  An XBox 360 firmware update will enable the console to output 1080p, including upsampling DVDs to that resolution.

Google Maps Updated

Or so I hear – my place still shows as a field.  The street I live on is brand new. There is a list of places with new high resolution maps available here.

Acrobat Typewriter Tool

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

Working for Adobe, I have access to Adobe software.  Acrobat is a tool I don’t think I would have considered buying before starting with Adobe, but after using it for the last two years, I can say it’s right up there with Microsoft Office as one of the things I’d have to have on a new […]

Disappointed in Thunderbird

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Gmail’s spam filter is failing me.  Two or three messages per hour are getting through their spam filter, and it’s really impacting my ability to use Gmail. I decided to download the messages to my computer and use Thunderbird’s spam filter as a 2nd opinion on whether or not something is spam. So I download […]

Google Trends on Next Generation Consoles

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Back Online

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Things are finally getting back to normal. I have Rogers as my ISP now, as well as my cable provider, and cellular provider.  The only thing I’m not using them for is telephone, and since Bell is having some serious problems with the phone system in my new area (hum on the line, static, dropped […]

Renewed C++ Interest

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I read two blog posts today that are quite encouraging about the future of the C++ compiler in Visual Studio. The first is Jonathan Caves talking about their Visual C++ Compiler Plans.  It’s very encouraging to see that they’re taking a long term “revamp the compiler” approach, and I hope they get the time and […]

Zombies ate my XBox

Monday, August 14th, 2006

After my bad week last week, I figured I needed some relaxing so I picked up Dead Rising for the XBox 360.  Popped it into the XBox, and found out that my XBox DVD drive has stopped working. It doesn’t spin up – the XBox thinks everything is ok (it goes through the “Closing” / “Reading” […]

Moving Sucks

Friday, August 11th, 2006

It’s been a while since I last posted, and I’m still not back online.  I’m posting this from work, because I don’t have Internet at home yet. My DSL line is provided by Bell, but my ISP is Magma, who is generally excellent, but they failed me in this case:  I scheduled my DSL move, […]
