XBox 360 Connects to Windows Media Center Edition in VMWare

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

I mentioned that I was going to install Windows XP Media Center Edition in a VM to see if I could stream videos to the XBox that way, and it works! Not as well as I’d like it to – for some reason the XBox 360 can’t see the network folder that I have my […]

Firefox 1.5 is Out

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Firefox 1.5 is out. A killer feature in this version that I’ve hardly seen mentioned is SVG support. You might be thinking “yay vectors in a browser” but it’s more than that. SVG is an object model for a graphical image. JavaScript can manipulate this model. This means a whole new level of possibilities for […]

International Ripping Off & Handling

Monday, November 28th, 2005

The folks at are out of their collective minds.  Check this out: This is a screenshot of the checkout page for a fairly generic $129.99 item (a foam mattress thing).  $110.80 for International Shipping & Handling?  And another $62.99 for Customs, Duties, Taxes, Insurance? I said that I’d pay a little more for shipping […]

My Home is My Domain

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I don’t understand the limitation that Microsoft places on their “Home” operating systems, that they cannot join a domain. A domain is a perfect solution for a home.  I have a server in the basement that stores music, and I have a number of desktop computers and laptops.  The benefits of using a domain, like […]

Windows Media Connect a Memory Hog

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

The guys have a blog. I called them out for not having an SSL certificate from one of the usual authorities, so Firefox doesn’t trust them. I wonder if my previous post on this is the one referred to here: Regarding the certificate (one blogger noted that our SSL cert isn’t trusted by Firefox), […]

XBox Site Still Broken for Firefox Users

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

The problem I mentioned yesterday accessing from Firefox is still happening. Seems like a pretty big problem to go unfixed for so long.

XBox 360: First Impressions

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

There are probably a thousand articles with this title being posted today.  I think my XBox 360 experience is maybe atypical because what I was looking forward to wasn’t the gaming, so much as it was the digital media center.  And so far I have to say, it delivers. The original XBox did a few […] Login Troubles?

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

If you’re having trouble connect to, try using Internet Explorer.  Trying to connect using Firefox gives me a “Server is unavailable” message, but Internet Explorer has no troubles.

Can’t post. New XBox.
