Dual Core iMac

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I’m watching today’s Apple announcements on Mac Rumors Live after Engadget and TUAW went down. So far the announcements are a new Intel-based iMac that you can hook up to your TV and use to stream video from other computers. It’s available dual-core as well.

The Colbert Report

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I love The Colbert Report. But they changed the last line of the flying bullets in the intro from “Grippy” to “Megamerican”. I liked “Grippy”.

Does the XBox 360 Need Saving?

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I’ve been very happy with my XBox 360, but I keep reading stories in the media about how flawed it is, how screwed up the launch was, how buggy the console is, and on and on.  As an XBox 360 owner, I just don’t see it.  I’ve had a great time with it for the […]

Apple’s Billionth Song: A Legal Lottery?

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Apple’s iTunes Music Store has been running a contest for a while now.  They’re counting down to one billion songs sold (and reached that mark recently).  In marketing this contest, Apple has been giving away prizes for every 100,000th song sold for the last few weeks, and had a $10,000 prize for the person who […]

XBox Controller Keyboard

I need a new MMORPG.  It’s been a while since I stopped playing Guild Wars, EverQuest and World of Warcraft, and I want something new. I had a look at the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes site to see how they’re doing and there’s still not much to see, but I ran across an interesting tidbit […]

Google Pages

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Another new Google toy:  Google Pages. Looks like a good way for somebody with absolutely no web experience to publish some stuff… And if you’ve got a gmail account, there’s no setting up to do, you just go start editing. Unfortunately since someone got stevex@gmail.com before me, my page has to be at http://xsteve.googlepages.com.  Which […]

Goodbye, Jeeves

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

It’s kind of sad to see Jeeves retire.  The search engine will simply go by the name, ask.com.  Jeeves has been this quirky character who’s been hanging around the Internet for over 10 years.  He’d answer some queries about himself in funny ways, but I see that’s gone now.  Happy retirement, Jeeves.  I voted for […]

Sony Managing PS3 Expectations

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

So a News.com article says that the PS3 will cost $800 and not come out until 2007.  Of course that’s just silly.  Sony would get killed releasing a game console that costs that much.  But it’s all part of managing expectations. Is $500 a lot for a console?  Yes it is.  But if people speculate for […]

Common Password Salting

Friday, February 17th, 2006

You use the same password on more than one site.  Admit it.  Everyone does it.  It’s a dirty little secret that nobody talks about.  Maybe you make yourself feel safer by using a different password for your bank, or for online stores. Here’s the problem. There’s a relatively new trick, some would say evil trick, […]

Google Talk in Gmail

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Originally I thought this was just an interesting novelty, but turns out it’s actually quite useful. If you haven’t seen it, Gmail now has a bar at the left side of the window, next to your mail, where it will show you your Google Talk contacts and their online status.  I’ve included a snapshot of […]
