Gmail Delete
Google added a Delete button to Gmail a little while ago, in response to complaints from users that there’s no easy way to delete a message.
Previously you had to move a message to the Trash, and then you could empty the trash. Now there’s a Delete button on the main UI next to the Archive and Report Spam buttons.
But does it delete the message? Er, no.
Someone responded to a message I’d written, and I’d deleted the original thread. When the new message came in, Google showed it to me, and at the bottom of the page, said:
2 deleted messages in this conversation. View messages or delete forever.
So Delete just moves it the trashcan; it doesn’t actually delete anything.
Maybe the button label should be Trash or Move to Trash, which would make it clear that you’re not actually deleting anything when you press Delete.
