This is the announcement I’ve been waiting for. Too bad it’s still a year away.
CableCARD is to cable what a SIM card is to a cellular phone. It identifies you to the network, so the network can authorize services for you. This means instead of having to buy a Rogers box to hook up to my cable, I can buy any box that supports CableCARD (assuming Rogers did, which it doesn’t).
CableCARD support in an Windows Media Center Edition PC means, finally, a PC-based PVR that could record HD content.
