HDTV from a PC

Well, I finally got it sort of working - I couldn't get it to stay in
sync, but then again I was using a GeForce MX440 (not an ATI card as I
thought).  Setting the PC to 1920x1080 got me nothing (probably
because it wasn't interlaced), but using 1280x720 gave me an
image.

It was easy to see, trying to render that kind of detail, how out of
convergence the rear projection set is; you just don't notice it with
TV.  Convergence within a few pixels doesn't matter for TV, but
for a computer image, it's a killer when it's off by even that little.

And interlace sucks.  It flickered a lot more than I thought it would.

Moral of the story:  If you want to use your HDTV as a computer
display, buy a plasma or LCD monitor, or a projector, but not a rear
projection CRT-based set.
