Migrating to WordPress

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

No no, I’m not migrating again.. but it kinda feels that way. My old blogging software is still online, because Google, doesn’t parse the meaning of  “please visit my new blog”.  Google needs to be told that you’ve moved to update it’s database to the new place.  I never got around to installing a permanent redirect […]

Bad Hair Day

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

A blog I found through the Long Tail site:  Bad Hair Day.  Just a blog about celebrity hairstyles.  Fluffy but kinda fun.

Welcome to WordPress 2.0

Friday, January 6th, 2006

That was the easiest upgrade of blogging software I’ve ever been through. And it preserved my theme perfectly – every other upgrade has meant going back and customizing the theme again. And I have a WYSIWYG editor to type into! This makes BlogJet a bit less of a necessity.

DreamWeaver

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

I left a note to myself to try creating blog posts with images using DreamWeaver.  Turns out you can’t just paste a bitmap from the clipboard into DreamWeaver, so I guess FrontPage has the advantage there. Mainstream Bloggers vs Random Sampling

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Reading blogs via the Long Tail is an interesting contrast to the usual blogs I read.  The sheer mindlessness of most posts aside, the what I’m used to reading is mostly people linking to interesting things and then commenting on them.  They’re aggregators.  Scoble, for example, or Scripting News. By the way, if you’re looking for an efficient workflow for creating blog posts with snippets of your desktop or window screenshots, here’s the secret. Create your posts using FrontPage.  You can paste an image into FrontPage and it will automatically generate a filename and save it to disk for you.  You can create and […]

The Long Tail is Alive Again

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

I’ve brought back the Long Tail site.  Between when I took it offline and now, the blo.gs site was purchased by Yahoo, and shut down public access to their ping service.  The site says to email them for access, but I did and got no response, so I’ve changed the way I find updated feeds […]

Here’s a guy that gets it.

My post on how to get linked to?  Here’s a guy that gets it.

More Spam for Me

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

I just realized I didn’t have any way for anyone to contact me on my blog, so I’ve added that. I already depend on spam filters to save me from the deluge, so I don’t think publishing this email address again will make it any worse.

Top 1 Ways To Get People to Link to You

Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

Reading Digg and Slashdot, both of which are aggregators of popular content, it’s amazing how many of the articles that get posted are numbered lists. 6 Places You Must Use Ajax, for example.  10 things you should do to prepare a new Linux installation.  Top 10 System Administrator Truths.  Leonardo Da Vinci’s 10 Best Ideas.  […]
