Rogers, 8300HD, FireWire
In case you were wondering if you can use the FireWire port on your Scientific Atlanta 8300HD box from Rogers to get video out… you can’t.
At least, not yet.
I tried hooking the Mac up and using the FireWire SDK to capture video, and while it can talk to the device and query it, no video comes through.
SA8300HD users on other providers (like Videotron in Quebec) report that they can get video out through FireWire, but Rogers has chosen not to enable that feature.
It’s definitely supported by the hardware, so maybe Rogers will change this at some point, if enough people request it.

I’m not sure if its the same case with the Rogers boxes but over here on the west coast, Shaw has two HD digital terminals, one basic and one PVR. You can pull video through the firewire from from the basic box but not the PVR. Apparently it has something to do with the number of outputs (limited to 1). And for the PVR boxes’ case, the hard drive counts as an output.
