Real-Time Search

One of the most significant consumers of bandwidth on the Ottawa Events site is GoogleBot.  GoogleBot crawls the site very frequently, fetching mostly the same content over and over.

I just saw an example of this working out very well.  There's a free New Years party with fireworks that has almost no online presence.  I emailed one of the organizers, Rick Chiarelli, and received a reply with the press release that should have been on the City of Ottawa website.

I posted it, and Google indexed it almost immediately.  Just in the past few hours there have been around 250 hits on the page, from people searching Google for things to do tonight.

I remember a few years back when updates to the search engine indexes were months apart.  This is a new era.

(Microsoft's Windows Live Search, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have indexed the page yet).
