Here is what I did, to solve my problem

I have nero installed on vista. To fix the vista movie maker crashing when rendering, I just renamed this folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter

Renamed DSFilter to something else. VMM no longer crashes and when I want to use Nero again, just rename DSFilter back to normal
Greetings from Brazil

***********

Thanks Mario, you are a star!!!
Your suggestion has worked regarding a fix for when Movie Maker and DVD Maker stop working (which it did when I tried to load video clips to either programme)

All I did was rename the ‘DSFilter’ file to ‘DSFilter1′ – will just have to remember to change it back when I want to use Nero again.

Thanks once again

PS I had tried just un-checking the filters within the options in WMM but this didn’t work for me and I didn’t have ‘msacm.voxacm160′ when using regedit nor do I have ‘pvmjpg21.dll’ so couldn’t try those suggestions.

THIS WORKED FOR ME! IVE BEEN WORKING AT THIS FOR HOURS AND HOURS IVE TRIED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING AND NOTHING WORKED BUT THEN I TRIED THIS AND I AM SOOOOOO THANKFUL FOR YOU GIVING ME THIS INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TRIED THE WMM DECODERS UNCHECKING THING, NOTHING
TRIED REGEDIT SOLUTION, NOTHING
TRIED SYSTEM32 FAULT MODULE SOLUTION, NOTHING
TRIED DELETING THE WHOLE ENRO FOLDER, NOTHING
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOO SO SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!1

My windows movie maker works perfectly, and works good with videos and stuff, even from DV Camcorder.... But every time I add a "wmv" audio file, it crashes and says "Windows Movie Maker has stopped working" and then restarts. I read all the comments above leading to this and nothing really works.

Lustmyeyes when I try to do a publish to my computer, it does the same thing, but if you just leave it alone and don't do anything, mine eventually gets back to publishing. It's like it freaks out and then it realizes it can do it and catches up and starts publishing. Hope that helps. Oh I also hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE to bring up the task manager so it knows I'm waiting. Then walk away and come back later. :)
