iTunes and importing ratings
Joe asked what's up with importing ratings into iTunes.
I tried with iTunes 4.9 editing the ratings using the COM interface to iTunes on Windows, and it did let me set the rating.
This means it's possible to write a tool to import ratings into iTunes. I still have my database of ratings from Windows Media Player, so at some point I'll finish this tool, although this will work on Windows only.
I use iTunes on the Mac as well as Windows, so this won't help me on the Mac.. but iTunes has an AppleScript interface so it's probably possible to do the same thing.
Really, I'm hoping that Apple will recognize the importance of preserving the work users do rating their songs, and provide an easy way of moving them around.
